The workshop is organized by the FAO in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Regional Fisheries Organizations Network (RSN), and aims to better popularize the process of setting up the OECMs zones, as well as to exchange with the Fisheries Agencies on the different points of view relating to these units. The workshop was structured around a number of key points. 

It focused on the role of the various regional fisheries organizations around the world in achieving the objectives/targets of the Kunming-Montreal global framework, in particular the achievement by 2030 of 30% of the world's protected areas, whether marine, coastal, terrestrial or freshwater. He reminds us of the role that the various organizations must play in helping to achieve this objective over the coming years. 

In addition to the SRFC, several other organizations were represented, including the CPCO, ICCAT, NAFO, NEAFC and CCALMR. The OECMs are therefore a step towards achieving the objectives of the Convention on Biological Diversity;
